TL;DR: TermKey collects nothing, transmits nothing, and has no way to do either — the app does not request network permission. Everything you type, every setting, snippet and clipboard entry stays on your device. The end. (Details below, for the thorough.)
Who we are
TermKey is an Android input method (keyboard) for terminal and coding use, published at termkey.app and distributed through Google Play. Contact: [email protected].
What the app collects
Nothing. TermKey does not collect, store remotely, share, or sell any personal data, usage data, or telemetry of any kind. It contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporters, and no third-party code that phones home.
The app's Android manifest declares no INTERNET permission.
This is not a promise we ask you to trust — it is enforced by the operating system: Android will
not permit the app to open a network connection at all. You can verify this yourself in
Settings → Apps → TermKey → Permissions, or by inspecting the APK.
About the keyboard warning Android shows
When you enable any third-party keyboard, Android displays a standard notice that the input method "may be able to collect all the text you type, including personal data like passwords and credit card numbers." This warning is shown for every keyboard app, regardless of what it actually does. TermKey processes your keystrokes only to deliver them to the app you are typing in — they are never logged, stored (beyond the on-device features described below), or transmitted.
What stays on your device
TermKey keeps a small amount of data locally, solely to make its features work:
- Settings — your layout, theme and gesture preferences.
- Snippets & macros — the commands you save for one-tap insertion.
- Clipboard history — items you copy while typing, kept so you can re-paste them; you can clear or pin entries in the app, and the history never leaves the device.
All of this lives in the app's private storage, is inaccessible to other apps, and is deleted by Android when you uninstall TermKey. None of it is backed up to any server by us.
This website
termkey.app is a static site with no analytics, no tracking pixels and no cookies.
Your accent-color choice on the homepage is stored in your browser's localStorage and
never sent anywhere. Two infrastructure providers are involved in serving the site:
- Cloudflare hosts the site (Cloudflare Pages) and, like any host, processes IP addresses and request metadata to deliver content and mitigate abuse (Cloudflare's privacy policy).
- Google Fonts serves the site's typefaces, which involves your browser requesting font files from Google's servers (Google's privacy policy).
Purchases
TermKey is sold through Google Play. Payment, billing and refunds are handled entirely by Google; we never see your payment details (Google's privacy policy applies).
Children
TermKey does not knowingly collect data from anyone, children included — it collects no data from any user.
Changes to this policy
If TermKey's data practices ever change (for example, an optional cloud-sync feature), this policy will be updated here first and the change will be called out in the app's release notes before it ships. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the current revision.
